We
L.A.
Los Angeles is like nowhere
else in the world. From its beaches and endless sunshine to its richly diverse
communities and culture, Southern
California has something
for everyone.
In our own words, here’s
why WE
love L.A.:
Enjoy the Sunshine of Southern California
"I
just went for a walk along the beach at sunset and watched the sun go down,
with my toes in the sand and the waves around my ankles."
“The ocean is breathtaking.
On a bright afternoon, at sunset, or even on a cloudy morning, I can’t escape
her. Plus, she’s always there for you when you need her.”
“I love that I get to wear
flip-flops all year (and treat myself to super-cheap monthly pedicures!).”
“I love LA because while
most people enjoy good weather in the summer, they don't usually
enjoy summer in January!”
“I
lived in New York for 4 years where all the vegetables and fruit I
bought came from California. Now that I live here, I visit any one of our many farmers markets and get them
fresh!”
“I love the fact that I've
got a kumquat tree in the
garden.”
Out and About in L.A.
“I
love that there's always something cool to do, whether you go to the beach with
friends from work or go to a fabulous
restaurant downtown.”
“I love that I have an
endless stream of family and friends visiting me, because who can resist sunny
CA for a quick getaway?”
“I love that anytime my
husband and I need a quick getaway ourselves, we can just drive a couple hours
north up to Santa Barbara and feel
like we're back in upstate NY, in the rolling hills, surrounded by wineries and wide open
spaces.”
“I love the wonderful
places to hike very close by! Also, there are at least 4 beautiful botanical gardens to
visit within about an hour from Harbor (very relaxing for plant enthusiasts or
outdoor types when a real hike feels like more than you want to do).”
“I
love the Ballona
Creek bike path that I can take from my house in Culver City all the way to the
beach in Marina Del Rey!”
“Where
else can you surf in the AM, ski all afternoon, cruise Sunset Boulevard at
night, all in the same day, all in winter!?
“I love LA because the
ocean, mountains, deserts, and the US-Mexico border are all within a 2 hour
drive.”
“I love hiking in the Santa Monica mountains or riding on the
beach.”
“Believe it or not, LA is a
cycling city. You can cruise the
coast from Long
Beach to Malibu or hit the hills for a gorgeous panoramic view.”
The Epicenter of the Arts
“I
love the beautiful art deco buildings
downtown and the great tours run by the LA Conservancy.”
“I love all the free
concerts and festivals that can be found living in the beach cities.”
“I love that every so often
I see a TV show or movie being filmed in my neighborhood. I’ll see celebs out to lunch or at the mall. It’s easy to avoid the ‘plastic’
side of L.A., but it is fun to be in the center of Hollywood.”
“I love Culver City’s incredible art scene. No, not
stuffy museums. Young artists + beats and live bands + open bar = killer
night out.”
“I
love Hollywood Forever Cemetery where
they show movie classics like Psycho
and The Shining on the side of a
mausoleum. Creepy. Only in LA.”
“I love the Hollywood Bowl. Pack a picnic and a bottle
of wine and hear gorgeous Hollywood Hills full of music.”
Multicultural L.A.
“I love that our residency
draws people from all cultures and backgrounds.”
“I love the fact that I can
get any type of food from around the world anytime!”
“I love L.A. for its multi-ethnic communities that have
restaurants serving multi-ethnic food!”
“As an immigrant I love the
diversity. You can go to different parts of L.A. and find Ethiopian communities, Salvadoran communities
- everyone is here! At Harbor, we have some of the most diverse group of patients
- immigrants from around the world: Latin America, Nigeria, Jamaica, Fiji, Korea, etc…”

“Living
in L.A. is like experiencing and traveling the world,
except it's in your own neighborhood and community. You don't need to
travel far to experience the whole world.”
“For World Cup, I went to a
Brazilian restaurant and watched Brazil play. Earlier, I watched Mexico surrounded by, well, Mexicans. And, I watched the
final in a French bistro. Only in L.A. you can watch World Cup surrounded by natives of
every team playing!”
Los Angeles moves the
world!
“I
love L.A. for its politics, for its willingness to march for justice, and its ability to come together when it
needs to.”
“Another big ‘I love L.A.’ is that there are so many social justice events
happening all the time. Monthly films for peace in Santa Monica, social justice talks at the Czech Cafe on Pico Blvd, meetings with Code Pink for peace, or advocacy
workshops by those who trained with Dr. Martin Luther King. Here we don't have
to read about history and lament; we can be a part of shaping it.”
“I love L.A. Mayor Antonio Villaraigosa. He’s all over town and has great energy. L.A.’s first Latino mayor in over 130 years!”
ONLY in L.A.
“I love Los Angeles sports. The most successful basketball franchise in
NBA history is the L.A. LAKERS.”
“I love DISNEYLAND!!”
“I love L.A. for its physical beauty: palm trees, snow-capped
mountains, public gardens and parks, many museums, neighborhood
murals, and the annual Rose
Parade.
“My
Grandma was a die-hard Dodger Fan. Her
blood ran ‘Dodger Blue.’ I loved going to games with her at Chavez Ravine, and
still do.”
“In-N-Out
Burger. MMM….good.”
“You need a car to make it
in L.A., but here we have our share of alternatives: electric,
hybrid, or bio-diesel. Plus, LA cyclists are always fighting for fewer cars, more bikes!”
